Worship Quotable!

“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.”

C.S. Lewis

Westminster Larger Catechism

Question 174: What is required of them that receive the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper in the time of the administration of it?

It is required of them that receive the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, that, during the time of the administration of it, with all holy reverence and attention they wait upon God in that ordinance, diligently observe the sacramental elements and actions, heedfully discern the Lord’s body, and affectionately meditate on his death and sufferings, and thereby stir up themselves to a vigorous exercise of their graces; in judging themselves, and sorrowing for sin; in earnest hungering and thirsting after Christ, feeding on him by faith, receiving of his fulness, trusting in his merits, rejoicing in his love, giving thanks for his grace; in renewing of their covenant with God, and love to all the saints.

Question 175: What is the duty of Christians, after they have received the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper?

The duty of Christians, after they have received the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, is seriously to consider: How they have behaved themselves therein, and with: What success; if they find quickening and comfort, to bless God for it, beg the continuance of it, watch against relapses, fulfil their vows, and encourage themselves to a frequent attendance on that ordinance: but if they find no present benefit, more exactly to review their preparation to, and carriage at, the sacrament; in both which, if they can approve themselves to God and their own consciences, they are to wait for the fruit of it in due time: but, if they see they have failed in either, they are to be humbled, and to attend upon it afterwards with more care and diligence.

Ministry News

Reflections of a parent sending her child to Camp Bonclarken:

It’s a scary thing to send your child away from you for an entire week. Many of my friends couldn’t believe we’d let her go, but I knew she was ready. And I KNEW that this week at Bonclarken would be pivotal in my daughter’s life. She came back to us more confident, more experienced, and with a love of Christ-centered fellowship that will stay with her for the rest of her life. Returning to “the real world” was quite emotional, as she saw and understood the difference between the friendship of believers and the friendships of the world. At Bonclarken, it was safe. My daughter made a public profession of her faith in Christ. The faith she has grown up with from the beginning made it’s appearance at the surface of her heart that week. Now she knows that what her parents have been teaching her is true. She knows it in her heart, not just because she trusts us, but because she loves Jesus. Ah, the Holy Spirit is at work for certain in her tender little heart. I’m so grateful for the opportunity she had to make that Rite of Passage so many of our ARP children have made. The memories and the feelings are etched forever in her heart. Now more than ever, Christ-centered fellowship is what she will seek for herself. I’m so proud of her. And I’m encouraged as a parent to continue keeping our home insulated and safe and full of Christ with each meal, routine, activity, and relationship. What a blessing Bonclarken has been!

“One of the most neglected aspects of corporate worship (and no doubt the spiritual life in general) is prayer. The time spent in prayer in a worship service is minimal, but prayer has always been one of the main reasons believers have assembled, both in the Old Testament and in the early church. Just as private prayer is basic to the spiritual life, so corporate prayer is at the heart of the worship and service of the congregation.”
