WESTMINSTER LARGER CATECHISM

Question 67: What is effectual calling?

Effectual calling is the work of God's almighty power and grace, whereby (out of his free and special love to his elect, and from nothing in them moving him thereunto) he does, in his accepted time, invite and draw them to Jesus Christ, by his Word and Spirit; savingly enlightening their minds, renewing and powerfully determining their wills, so as they (although in themselves dead in sin) are hereby made willing and able freely to answer his call, and to accept and embrace the grace offered and conveyed therein.
______________________________________________________________________________________

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Our lives are to conform to the Word of God. It is only after we read, study and begin to correct our lives where conformity is lacking, that God begins to complete us. Take time to study and ingest the Word so that your life reflects the character of God!

MINISTRY NEWS

Behind the scenes, much goes on to make H.A.R.P. work! Bills are paid, janitors clean, music is rehearsed, schedules are made, lights are turned on, bank accounts reconciled, lessons are prepared. Take time to encourage those who serve our congregation so faithfully – and praise God for gifting his people to serve the church.

WESTMINSTER LARGER CATECHISM

Question 66: What is that union which the elect have with Christ?

The union, which the elect have with Christ, is the work of God's grace, whereby they are spiritually and mystically, yet really and inseparably, joined to Christ as their head and husband; which is done in their effectual calling.
______________________________________________________________________________________

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

At our recent Joint Officer meeting, the Session and Diaconate were challenged to consider how we might put a little sweat equity into various ministries of the church. From time to time, the church can slip into a maintenance mode. Joy, energy, and often excitement can erode from a certain ministry, causing that particular area of ministry to suffer. Help us identify areas where a vital ministry needs manpower, sweat, and even your own help so that our ministries remain Christ-honoring and member edifying.

MINISTRY NEWS

The officers of the church would like to see Wednesday Family Night (meal, nursery, children’s classes, and adult class electives) resume on a weekly basis in September. In order for this to take place, we will make a plan and begin asking the congregation to help make sure that we can support this ministry in both participation and service. Consider over the coming months of summer the following needs: Nursery, K-2nd Grade Teaching, 3rd-5th Grade Teaching, Meal Preparation, and Fellowship Hall & Kitchen Clean-Up.

WESTMINSTER LARGER CATECHISM

Question 63: What are the special privileges of the visible church?

The visible church has the privilege of being under God's special care and government; of being protected and preserved in all ages, not withstanding the opposition of all enemies; and of enjoying the communion of saints, the ordinary means of salvation, and offers of grace by Christ to all the members of it in the ministry of the gospel, testifying, that whosoever believes in him shall be saved, and excluding none that will come unto him.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

We live in such an information age! We hear, we see, we organize, we distribute, and we have information pass by our minds. It is no wonder that many of the facts that cross the desk of our minds have no effect on us. We are information numb! Take for example the evening news – do we simply hear the telling of the loss of life, or do we take a moment to ponder that life has been lost, that a person with physical and personal connections to this life is no longer alive? On a spiritual note – do we pass over the Scriptures with our eyes or ears, or do we consider how they bear weight on our daily lives?
